Come and join us as we learn about some of the first Americans in Paris. They were none other than a mix of founding fathers and revolutionaries: Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, John Paul Jones and more.  During the early years of America's birth, these men would call Paris home.

The tour begins at the Place de la Concorde where Benjamin Franklin signed the Treaty of Alliance in 1778 making France the first to recognize the U.S. We will then walk through the Tuileries Garden and cross the Seine to the statue of Jefferson near one of his favorite buildings, the Palace of the Legion of Honor. We continue along the Left Bank and will hear stories of Voltaire, Lafayette, Jefferson's favorite artists, and the aristocratic salons. We will view the French Institute, the Mint, a house turned into a Masonic Lodge, and one of Jefferson's favorite bookshops.

The tour winds up at the city's oldest café, which was frequented by Franklin and the Enlightenment philosophers.

A 15-20 minute break with the guide is included midway through the walk.

Please wear comfortable shoes.

Instructor:
Brad Newfield, highly experienced historian and guide for over 20 years.
