Too many of us are fearfully ignorant of the significant  contributions made by African Americans over the decades, and since 1970, an annual Black History Month has been celebrated in the U.S. in order to bring those achievements into our awareness.

This talk will focus on African-American contributions in the 20th century, steering away from the clichés of athletic prowess and musical entertainment and delving into lesser-known milestones of achievement with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), as well as the institutional backbone that supported civil rights progress. 

Instructor: Ellen Kountz has had a business career in different financial institutions, working most recently at the Paris Bourse. She now teaches economics and finance-related classes at business schools in Paris and Grenoble.  Ellen participates actively in cultural and heritage activities within the African diaspora in Paris. Since 2012, she has presented Black History Month as a labor of love and has been met with widespread interest from all audiences.
