Continuing with our first Painting Studio course, this Part II, further explores the Masters while leaving an open path for those beginning painters.

Félix Valloton was a successful graphic artist as well as a painter. He and the Nabis, a group of late 19th century painters inspired by Gauguin and Mallarmé, developed a style based on the flattening of the pictorial space to feature the interplay of shape and color.

They all featured scenes of contemporary life translated into images so beautifully harmonious they seem to resonate with a timeless quality.

We will also take a peek at Phil Lichtenstein, showing at the Centre Pompidou, to see how the American pop artist used comic book imagery to translate the paintings of his European predecessors.

Both beginners and practiced painters are welcome.

Instructor: Jan Olsson holds a Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and is an engaging teacher with many years of experience teaching. She is also a highly skilled practicing artist who exhibits internationally.
