Overview, Auctions and Art Fairs

Have you always wanted to have a special painting hanging in your salon? A famous photograph in the office? A contemporary sculpture on the mantle? Great... but how to find a lasting, enjoyable piece for a fair price?

This course provides an overview of contemporary art collection, from the important roles collectors play in the art world, what makes a great collection, to in-person visits to three of the most rewarding avenues for art acquisition:

Collections, and collectors, optional gallery visit after the class

     Auctions (Artcurial, Christie’s or Drouot)

Art Fairs, with a personal visit to the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC), a great opportunity to hone your art preferences, meet gallerist and artists.

Instructor: Caroline Etter. Art consultant, historian of art, friend to collectors and artists both, Caroline has been immersed in the Paris art scene for 15 years.

After graduating with a degree in 20th-century decorative arts from the Sorbonne, she started her career working at the Villa Médicis in Rome and at Bibliothèque nationale de France.

Since then she’s been a curator, a journalist and a gallery manager working with private and corporate clients.

She shares her deep knowledge of the art market both in France and internationally through her firm, city | art insider, working with art lovers discovering the art market and advising established collectors of contemporary art, photography and design.
