An in-depth look at Paris' most historic cemetery in eastern Paris, commonly referred to as - Père-Lachaise cemetery - the city’s most prestigious and most widely-visited cemetery.

Opened in 1804 on the site of a former Jesuit retreat, Père-Lachaise is today one of the world's largest and most famous cemeteries. Almost 2 million people visit Pere-Lachaise each year, to walk its grounds dotted by thousands of monuments, many of which are dedicated to some of the world's greatest names in the arts, sciences, literature and of course history.

We will hear the stories of many important figures including Héloïse and Abelard, Chopin, Jim Morrison, Champollion, Géricault, David Balzac, Proust, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Edith Piaf, and Molière.

We will see unique sculptures, monuments and an unusual art project, as well as the Communard Wall with its Resistance and Holocaust Memorials.
