Pinhole Photography

Discover the origins the and magic of traditional photography! Working with a simple metal coffee can and light sensitive photo paper, we'll go in just a few hours through the entire process from making a "camera", making first exposures and then final positive prints. Pinhole photography is a magical process that allows us to see the world around us in a completely new way.

This is a great class for all levels of photographers. Students will only need to bring a metal coffee canister to class (the round Illy brand coffee cans are the best) and we'll supply the rest! We'll quickly transform the all-metal canisters into cameras and then we'll be off into the world with our magical camera to capture stunning and surprising visions!

We'll take a number of pictures, creating the original "negative" and then we'll transform at least one of these into a finished positive photograph by the end of the class. A remarkably simple and yet powerful photographic process that students will be able to continue on their own after the class!

Instructor: Michael McCarthy has won numerous prizes for his photography and has been exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S. and in Europe for more than twenty years. Currently represented by the Galerie Duboys in the Marais, his exhibition, Human Form, was selected Best Gallery Exhibition in 2012 by Marc Lenot on his Lunettes Rouges blog hosted by Lemonde.fr.
